How Much Do Virtual Assistants (VA's) Charge? VA's generally charge by the hour, or by the job for project work. Arrangements can be made for payments on a retainer basis for a set number of hours per month. Retainers that are set up on an annual contract basis are generally discounted by 20%, however this rate varies according to the Virtual Assistant you choose. When compared with the 'real cost' of employees, statistics show that employees actually cost 2 to 2 ½ times their rate of pay when their full costs are included: OHIP, WSIB, CPP, EI, administrative costs, sick time, vacation time, recruitment, base salary, benefits, office space and furnishings, equipment, etc. Hiring independent contractors also avoids the risk of lawsuits, Occupational Health & Safety requirements, and various other legal and regulatory issues that apply to the employer-employee relationship. Cyberspaces cannot replace your valuable, full-time employees, but we can lighten their workload and yours, substantially. Yes, but can I afford it? Absolutely! You only pay for the time worked.
